FAQs
-
The Active Counsellor is a modern counselling approach that integrates movement with traditional talk therapy. Sessions may include walking, light exercise, breath work, or seated conversation designed to support mental health, emotional regulation, performance, and overall wellbeing.
-
This service is for individuals who:
• Feel stuck with traditional sit-down therapy
• Value movement as part of their wellbeing
• Want support with mental health, stress, identity, performance, or life transitions
• Are ready to take an active role in their personal growth and recovery
No fitness background is required.
-
Not at all. Movement is always tailored to your ability, energy levels, and health considerations. Sessions can be as gentle as walking, stretching, breath-focused or fully seated if that’s what feels right for you.
-
Each session is guided by your goals and how you’re feeling that day. We may:
• Walk and talk outdoors
• Incorporate light, intentional movement
• Pause for reflection, grounding, or breathwork
• Sit and talk if movement isn’t appropriate
There’s no pressure, as flexibility and safety come first.
-
I work with children, teenagers, adults, high performers, athletes, and individuals living with chronic illness. The Active Counsellor supports individuals seeking help with mental health, performance, recovery, stress, confidence, identity, and life transitions.
-
How do you work with children?
I hold a current Queensland (QLD) Blue Card and have experience supporting children in a range of settings. My approach is flexible and tailored to each child’s individual needs, interests, and comfort level.
Movement is always optional. If the child enjoys being active, we might go for a walk or play sports such as basketball, soccer, or rugby. If they prefer something more relaxed, we can engage in activities like chess, creative play, or conversation-based sessions.
Every session is designed around the child’s preferences, helping them feel comfortable, supported, and engaged.
-
That’s completely okay. Sessions can be adjusted in real time or switched to a seated or online format if needed. Your health always comes first.
-
The Active Counsellor is still evidence-based counselling. The difference is the integration of movement for those who find it helpful. If you prefer traditional sit-down counselling, talk-only sessions are also available.
-
Clients often work through:
• Stress, anxiety, and burnout
• Identity shifts (injury, illness, career change)
• Mental health alongside physical health challenges
• Performance, motivation, and confidence
• Life transitions and personal growth
If you’re unsure whether this is the right fit, a free consultation can help clarify.
